Job Description:
The Business Analyst is tasked with improving process capabilities,
functional & technical requirements, design, and deliverables,
while maintaining and improving quality standards. As such the
Business Analyst role is solely responsible for the analysis,
design and development of the necessary requirements, functional
specifications, and process artifacts to support development
efforts for a specific business unit(s). The Business Analyst leads
and coordinates these activities from beginning to end through the
use of best practices focused on problem solving, requirements
gathering, analytical assessment and deliverables management.
Focus for this position will be centered on Data Management and
Modeling to support the collection, processing and storage of data
to support Business analytic requirements. Potential areas of focus
and responsibilities include:
- cting as Analyst/Data Steward/Data Modeler for an Agile Data
Engineering team utilizing data streaming technologies (Apache
Kafka & Flink) to populate a central data warehouse (Clickhouse dB)
supporting corporate reporting and analytic needs via Tableau
- ssessment of Business analytic requirements and subsequent data
collection and processing requirements to support Business
reporting needs
- Providing relationship management support between IT and
multiple Business units, including Operations (Manufacturing &
Distribution), Operations Planning, Sales and Business Insights.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Analytical & Design Duties
- Understands how to use technology to competitive advantage and
to solve business issues - focusing on design and implementation of
data modeling solutions to streamline and support enterprise
information management.
- Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of business
operations, identifying opportunities for operational efficiency
through automation and effective utilization of reporting &
analytics tools critical for all business areas (e.g., Marketing,
Sales, Distribution, Manufacturing, Finance, Human Resources).
- ssists in technical delivery management and relationship
management to identifying options for potential solutions and
assessing them for both technical and business suitability.
- Works collaboratively with IT and the Business resources,
assesses people, process, and technology current states, working to
evaluate tradeoffs between usability and performance needs, and
then utilize outcomes to develop requirements, use cases and user
stories according to standard templates, using natural
language.
- Provides thorough understanding of how to interpret customer
business needs; elicits requirements using interviews/requirements
workshops, conducts document analysis, surveys, site visits, plus
task and workflow analysis.
- Establishes partnerships to conduct/perform decision analysis
(options vetting with pros/cons assessed and outlined).
- Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple
sources, reconciles conflicts in information gathered, decomposes
high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level
information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user
requests from the underlying true needs and then transfers the same
knowledge to development team.
- Partners with knowledge management leads within Boar's Head to
ensure and maintain consistency on Standard Operating Procedures
and formal Work Instructions that outline use of several
enterprise-wide applications (Ex. Oracle ERP, Oracle Business
Intelligence, Tableau, QMS, LIMS, MES, etc.) utilized in business
processes.
- Brokers signoff on functional requirements, process
documentation and use cases from the appropriate business
process/product owners and all key impacted stakeholders.
- Supports roll-outs of new and expanding
applications/processes/projects. Process Analysis Specific Duties
- dept at outlining current state and designing conceptual/future
state visual process level diagramming and documentation (in Visio
and other more advanced visual modeling tools) that help articulate
options to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, effectiveness, and
streamline execution while keeping quality norms in alignment.
- dept at creating conceptual data models and data flows using
Visio and/or other more advanced visual modeling tools (i.e. Data
Visualization)
- Identifies, documents, and communicates current state of
business process, partnering with Technical Delivery Managers,
Business Analysts, and Developers to recommend future state
options.
- Provides process documentation (to include interaction points
with other systems and/or applications). Business Analysis Specific
duties
- The Business Analyst is responsible for needs analysis,
creating user stories & requirements, managing product backlogs,
signing off as Product Owner, and go-live business testing and
support.
- Identify and develop process improvements and data validation
rules to enforce company data policies, procedures, and
efficiencies
- Document the lineage, usage, compliance, business logic,
quality, access, risk, and value of all data assets for assigned
data sets in accordance with BH policies and processes.
- Developing and assisting with implementation of data strategies
and developing physical data models to support corporate data
strategies
- Fosters understanding of software functions and limitations,
usage scenarios, outlines error handling (system/human interaction
points) and expected /necessary quantitative measures for success
(e.g., expected performance targets, specific percentages for
quality improvements)
- Business Analyst assists with defining the methodology,
standards and practices for implementing solutions and develops
appropriate documentation on projects, as well as ensuring that
business requirements are adequately understood and documented.
Translates analysis outcomes into application and operational
requirements, functional specifications (to include user interface
requirements).
- Plan, review, and revise configurations and customizations of
business systems, as needed to meet evolving needs of the
business
- Develop, test, and deploy customizations, custom objects, new
functionality based on evolving business needs
- Develops use cases/user stories that include quantifiable
measures for successful outcomes in the designed scenarios.
- Partners with QA and Business teams in end-to-end systems
testing and coordination of user acceptance testing strategy
development and validation.
- Provide ongoing training materials to ensure adoption, and
deliver training in conjunction with departmental stakeholders
Project Management Support
- ssists Technical Delivery Manager(s) in business strategy
analysis and assists Project Manager's (PM) in refining project
plans/objectives for items responsible for delivering and executes
according to best practice methodologies and IT process
standards.
- ssesses project requirements and works with PMs, resource
managers and others delegated as PMs to assess level of effort
estimates.
- Ensures project success through team alignment towards project
objectives and expected results.
- Develops and maintains necessary project documentation in
accordance with best practices and within the agreed upon project
timelines.
- Works independently with users to define concepts yet remains
collaborative with project managers in order to work in accordance
with project strategy and project priorities that the project
manager has defined.
- Drives and challenges business units on their assumptions of
how they will successfully execute their plans.
- Partners with the project manager to define change requests for
missed requirements and scope change, helping maintain the right
focus on defined project constraints (schedule, resources, and
scope/quality).
- nalyst/Product Owner/Scrum Master for an agile Java/web
development team based on Scrum Communication
- Demonstrates strong oral communication skills, including the
ability to effectively interact with business partners and internal
team members.
- Demonstrates strong written communications skills, including
the ability to produce clear and concise recommendations, business
requirements and/or functional specifications, use cases and user
stories.
- Facilitates large scale meetings with all levels of the
company, clearly articulating objectives and identified next
steps.
- Communicates technical concepts and issues to non-technical
people.
- Interacts with all levels of the company with patience,
courtesy, diplomacy and professionalism Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, MIS, or related
field or equivalent experience.
- minimum of 3 years of experience in a Business Analyst, Data
Analyst and/or Data Modeler role to be considered; to include
experience with documenting functional and analytic requirements,
functional specifications, use cases/stories, data models, data
lineage and data flows.
- Experience with data modeling, data cleansing and database
design is a must.
- Strong understanding of data streaming technologies, data
aggregation techniques and data wrangling is a significant
plus.
- Experience within an Agile centric construct is mandatory
(Agile Certifications such as Kanban or Scrum Master are a
plus).
- Experience with application performance testing (particularly
data streaming performance) is a plus
- Technology and software skills
- Possesses an understanding and solid capabilities in Data
Governance and Data Quality management is required.
- Experience with Data Analytics technologies (i.e. Tableau or
equivalent) is required.
- Solid working knowledge if SQL (specifically on Oracle dbs) is
required.
- Working knowledge of any of the following languages is a plus.
- Java
- R
- Python
- Knowledge of data streaming technologies is a plus.

Environment
- This position requires working in an office environment.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- This is primarily a first shift position but adjustments to
shift start/end times may be required depending on future
production support schedules.
